“No matter how brilliant your mind or strategy, if you’re playing a solo game, you’ll always lose out to a team,” said Reid Hoffman, chairman and co-founder of LinkedIn Corp., speaking at the New Work Summit on February 26, 2019.
A Forbe’s article on careers by contributor, Amy Blaschka, attributes the remarks to a LinkedIn report publication that “cited soft skills as vitally important for the future of the workplace.”
“Soft skills—like creativity, persuasion and adaptability—refer to personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people,” reported Ms. Blaschka. “It’s not surprising, then, to learn that collaboration was listed as one of the top five most in-demand soft skills.”
“With the proliferation of global and remote offices,” continued Ms. Blaschka, “today’s employers rely on their employees’ ability to collaborate with colleagues and customers across time zones. When you can effectively connect with others and become a bridge to continued progress, your value multiplies.”
“But effective collaboration isn’t always easy,” according to Ms. Blaschka. She listed four skills to acquire to “boost your collaborative efforts in the workplace.” Here are the top five:
1. Collaboration
2. Accountability
3. Problem-solving
4. Empathy
5. Listening
Here are the Dale Carnegie human relations principles emphasizing the necessary skills that LinkedIn says are game changers to increase Team Engagement:
1. Collaboration
2. Accountability
3. Problem-solving
4. Empathy
5. Listening
